Mascara is an absolute must have  for your makeup bag. As a makeup artist, it is the one makeup item that I can not live with out. It opens up the eye, defines the eye shape and helps you look wide awake even when you’re running on a few hours of sleep. The eyes are the windows to the soul so they should stand out!

There are mascaras that darken the lashes, add volume, thicken, lengthen and several that do all.

My favorite mascara in the business is YSL Faux Cil.

Other notable favorites are: Nars larger than life volumizing mascara, L’Extreme by Lancome, and Eyes To Kill mascara by Armani. Although I firmly believe a good mascara is worth the price, I have done some experimenting with drugstore mascaras and my two favorites are Voluminous by Loreal and ELF volume plumping mascara.

Hello lovelies- I hope your week is off to an awesome start. There are so many fashion misconceptions out there, in the next few blog posts I’ll discuss three of them.

Most high fashion and runway models look nothing like the real everyday woman, however we live in a culture that constantly sends the message of extreme thinness being the ideal figure and in many cases the only way to guarantee looking stylish in the myriad of seasonal trends we have to sift through. “Your only fashion ideal should be you at your best, dressing your current body stylishly.” Any woman irrespective of size, shape or height can be well dressed. Simply focus on your body as it is now, not 3 months of extreme cardio from now, not ten pounds from now, but right now. This in turn makes it easier to make realistic and flattering wardrobe choices. As cliche as it may sound, the more you embrace your curves and uniquely beautiful imperfections, the more you hone in on what works best for your figure. So make the very best of what you have in the moment.

Bold prints have been an ongoing trend for several years and seem to have crossed the line to classic status in the world of high  fashion as fabulous fashion forward designers such as Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou amongst others have built there brands mostly on their ability to mesh amazing eye catching bold prints with classic silhouettes.

Let’s not forget major fashion houses like Pucci and Marni who’s brands are synonymous with prints, however, beyond these world renowned names are a host of rapidly emerging African designers who have always worked amazingly well with color and prints. One of such designers is Ituen Basi,  a Nigerian designer who’s been on my radar for three years. I admire her innate ability to mesh art and form. Below are a few  beautiful pieces from her Spring 2013 collection (most of these are from her Nigerian newspaper group):
